Rough Start to 2009
This past week Chris Rhodes came down to look at the engine.  Randy wanted to have him check it over to feel confident about taking it to the track and running it hard.  Chris found a couple flaws with the engine/carburetor that was an easy adjustment.  Marion Center was the location for Saturday night.  The pill pull was good giving us a second row starting position for the heat race.  In the process of making our way to lineup we found out quickly that the starter was sticking and could not get the car started even though we had it running 20 minutes before this.  Randy had to get a push which was also rather difficult without missing our heat.  Finally the car fired up and got out there.  The engine seemed good and the car was so-so since we finally got the engine working to its potential.  Randy claimed that it was the fastest he's ever drove at Marion Center however us few guys helping just figured its the first time he drove fast in about a year and figured he forgot what it was like.  We made a few slight adjustments to the car which were the perfect adjustments however we missed one thing we would have liked to do differently to make the car unbelievable.  Randy started 7th of a 22 car field in the feature making a few vital passes early.  Slowly but surely making our way to the front in a 3 car battle for 4th another car got into the side of Randy spinning him and causing a 4 car pileup.  Nothing seemed to be arong with the car as Randy tagged onto the bad of the pack.  He quickly worked to pass as many cars as he could and crossed the checkered flag in 10th.  We later found out that in the wreck we bent a ball joint and the upper control arm in the right front.  It was an ok night and enjoyable to know that the engine is back and strong as it ever was.  This weekend I believe will be a Dog Hollow weekend.  See you at the races.
